I read an excellent blog about President George W. Bush today and would like to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And be sure to visit their blog at Common Sense Politics USA
I Miss W!
Posted by Flor Miguez
It’s been a year since President George W. Bush left office and I miss him – Gosh, how I miss him!
I miss the good old days when I could sleep in peace at night. I miss the days when I knew the President actually cared about my safety. I miss the days when I knew I could sleep while aboard a plane, knowing that everything would be all right. I miss the days when the President of the United States was President of the United States instead of President of the world. I miss the good old days when the President loved his country, was proud of it, and didn’t go round the globe with his “World Apology Tour.”
One of the great things about George W. Bush is his sense of humor… He always made me laugh with his jokes and he is humble enough as to make fun of himself, something I really like about him… I could listen to his speeches without falling asleep. Because he was so funny, I got interested in politics. Nowadays, when the President speaks, I will be disgusted by his arrogance, long and boring speeches, not to mention his idiotic ideas…. In the last couple of weeks, every time the President spoke, I watched “A Pup named Scooby Doo” instead….
George W. Bush is a great husband. Remember the gazes, the kisses, the playful pats, the touches and the hugs between the first couple? They are not political partners. They are a couple in love.
W. is also a great dad who loves his daughters and is really proud of them.
One of the things I miss the most about him is that he was an outstanding Commander-In-Chief. He took decisions based on what was best for the country and not based on what could make him win a Nobel Peace Prize.
He was a Commander-In-Chief who admired all of those brave men and women who are serving our country. He didn’t think they were a pretty good photo-op. He respected them, and knew that they are young smart, brave people who love their country so much and therefore they are willing to make huge sacrifices for it. I just wish Barack Hussein Obama could understand that.
I remember how the soldiers always welcomed him cheerfully, and I know they were very proud of serving under his command.
George W. Bush kept America safe by strong leadership. Under his watch, there were no terrorist attacks since 9/11. Because of his policies 23 plots against the US were foiled.
He successfully executed two wars. President Bush removed totalitarian regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and now, 50 million people who lived in tyranny live in democracy.
George W. Bush helped improve the lives of many Afghan people, especially women and children. Saddam Hussein, a tyrant who abused the Iraqi people was removed from office and is now dead. His two murderous sons are dead, and all but a handful of members of his regime were killed or captured. The Al Qaeda network and its allies were weakened. Hundreds of Al Qaeda members were captured or killed. Khalid Sheik Mohammed (September 11th Attacks Mastermind) is in US custody, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (the former leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq) was killed in 2006.
President Bush disarmed Libya of its chemical, biological and nuclear WMD’s without bribes or bloodshed.
President Bush was probably the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House.
President Bush defended US sovereignty. President Bush didn’t ask for France’s or Venezuela’s permission to do what he had to do. He told the UN that it had to enforce its own resolutions or “become irrelevant,” and if the UN wouldn’t back its own resolutions, America would do it on her own. He was unafraid to go-it-alone when our vital interests were at stake, but that wasn’t necessary because he was able of building a coalition to help us fight the enemy.
President Bush Administration notified SCOTUS that the official US government position on the Second Amendment is that it supports individual rights to own firearms. President Bush signed two bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit. He told the UN we weren’t interested in their plans for gun control.
George W. Bush appointed judges committed to the ruling by the letter of law. He nominated Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Associate Justice Samuel Alito, and more than one third of federal judges, who trust me, won’t legislate from the bench. [Unlike some other Justice. a "wise latina," who thinks the Supreme Court legislates...]
President Bush STIMULATED the economy. His policies created ACTUAL JOBS for 52 months in a row. George W. Bush signed two income tax cuts, one of which was the largest dollar-value tax cut in world history. He also supported the permanent elimination of the death tax.
He inherited a recession, but wasn’t around blaming Bill Clinton. Instead he worked with his team to find a solution.
President Bush banned partial-birth abortions. By EO, he reversed Bill Clinton’s policy of nor requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act. By EO he prohibited federal funds for international family planning groups that provide abortions and related services. President Bush also took steps to protect the rights of health care providers to act according to their conscience. George W. Bush made $33 million available for abstinence education programs in 2004. He also believes marriage is between a man and a woman, and supports the Defense of Marriage Act.
There are many more accomplishments, but I don’t want to make you fall asleep with a long long long long long post.
The one thing I really admire about him is that he never let a Gallup Poll influence his decisions. He followed his instincts and his principles, and you know what…? He did a great job.
The other great thing about him, is that he wasn’t a politician, he was a public servant.
I hope he is enjoying private life in his new home in Dallas, TX, with his wife, Laura, and his cute dogs, Barney and Miss Beazley.
May God bless him and his family, for their service.
John McCain announced last week that Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska would be his running mate.We don’t know much about the Governor, but she made a very good first impression last night at the Republican convention.I am very excited about her being on the ticket.I have never been much of a feminist, at least not one to go out and protest or anything like that, but the democrats have got me riled up about Sarah Palin.
I didn’t care that they said she wasn’t qualified. That’s what politicians say about their opponents in a campaign.Just for the record, being a mayor and a governor makes her more qualified than Barack Obama being a “community organizer”.Yes, he was a state senator, where he didn’t do much of anything. And he is currently a U.S. Senator, where he has spent his entire term running for President. That is all politics. But they started out saying she should not run for Vice President because she should stay home and take care of her five children. What?Should Barack Obama stay home with his two small children?Should Joe Biden as a single parent have stayed home with his children?Should any of the thousands of men who have held public office stayed home with their children? Were they bad fathers for running for office? The truth of the matter is that a woman is more capable of pulling this off than any man.Women have been mastering the art of multi-tasking since the Garden of Eden.Men can only do one thing at a time.Men are not capable of preparing a meal, feeding a baby, helping with homework, answering a thousand questions, talking on the phone and dealing with a helpless spouse all at the same time. That is why they go to work.
The Democrats also attacked her for being “small town”.What is wrong with that? How many of you are from a small town? She is doing things the way most of us are.She is working her way up.Chances are she will understand the problems and needs of the people still living in a small town. She will understand what we face day in and day out.Barack Obama learned about politics from the Chicago Political Machine.Yeah, that’s a lot better.
Another attack was aimed at her husband Todd.Twenty two years ago, while in his early twenties, he was charged with a DUI.Now, I am not advocating driving and drinking, but this was when he was very young and a long time ago.Back then awareness was not as prominent as it is today. That doesn’t make it right, but is it something that should ruin his entire life and the life of his wife? There are two other points I want to make on this. The first is her husband was charged, not Governor Palin. The second:in his twenties Barack Obama was experimenting with drugs.Would you be relieved that your children are doing drugs over drinking beer?
The lowest the Democrats have ever gone was criticizing Governor Palin’s seventeen year old daughter and putting her in the spotlight because she is pregnant. This is something that has been happening since the beginning of time and will continue to happen to the end of time. How many families do you know have faced the same situation?Thousands upon thousands of teenagers have put this cart before the horse.Does this make them bad people? NO.Does it mean their parents should turn their backs on them?NO.Should their parents not accept their own grandchild?NO.Should Sarah Palin be unacceptable for Vice President because of it?NO.We are talking about human beings. They made a mistake, like all of us have. The Palin’s love their daughter and like good parents should do they are standing with her. They are looking forward to a beautiful, innocent grandchild. They recognize that their daughter and her boyfriend are facing some difficult times. They have chosen to not make things harder for them.Would you want your children’s and grandchildren’s future in the hands of someone who would do things different?
The democrats should focus on her qualifications. They should not make her family and her sex an issue.
Governor Jindal finally vetoed the bill giving the legislature a pay raise. Like most people from Louisiana I am glad he finally decided to do the right thing. The question now is why did he do it. There is only one explanation, the recall petition and protesters everywhere he went. I give him credit for admitting he made a mistake. Let’s all hope he learned from that mistake. Let’s hope the Louisiana Legislators learned a lesson as well. Below is the press release on the veto.
Governor Jindal Vetoes Legislative Pay Raise Bill
BATON ROUGE – At a press conference announcing his line item vetoes in the supplemental spending bill today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that he has vetoed the legislative pay raise bill to more than double legislators’ pay, SB 672.
“I have opposed this pay raise at every turn and from the very beginning. A doubling of legislative pay is clearly excessive and it takes effect prior to the next election, which I believe is bad policy,” Governor Jindal said. “This bill would also have set up a system to give legislators automatic pay raises in the future without additional legislative votes – which is a lack of accountability that we cannot accept.”
The Governor had previously said he would not veto the pay raise to allow the legislature to conduct its own internal affairs. “I clearly made a mistake by telling the legislature that I would allow them to handle their own affairs,” Jindal said. “As with all mistakes, you can either correct them or compound them – I am choosing to correct my mistake now.
“I have said that I was not going to stop legislators from more than doubling their own pay by vetoing this because I did not want to give them any excuse to slow down the momentum of our reform movement here in Louisiana. It turns out this is an unsustainable position. I have come to realize that the reforms I have been fighting for are simply incompatible with this legislative pay raise.
“I was trying to preserve our reform agenda and our momentum by tolerating this legislative pay raise that I knew was completely excessive. But the two cannot coexist.
“The bottom line is that allowing this excessive legislative pay raise to become law would so significantly undercut our reform agenda, and so significantly diminish the people’s confidence in their own government, that I cannot let it become law. So, I have vetoed the bill.”
The Governor continued to say that, “The sideshow over massive legislative pay raises has already taken up far too much time. It’s time to get back to doing the people’s business. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done in our state…there are roads to build, jobs to create, business to open, and kids to educate.”
The Governor also called for legislators to direct any anger over the veto of the pay raise to him, and not the people of Louisiana by impeding future important reforms for the state. Jindal said, “I know that some of the legislators are going to be upset that I broke my word to them to stay out of their business. But I am asking them to take out their anger on me – not on the people of Louisiana.”
The Governor concluded his remarks by calling on the public to continue their close involvement in government and the political process. The Governor said, “to all the citizens of Louisiana who have become so vocal on this issue and so involved in the process – stay involved. There is a lot more to do. Don’t tune out or stop paying attention to the political process now. This government belongs to you; it is your business. I’m going to need your help.”
Have you ever wondered what makes a politician tick? I have. It seems the most honest, fair and likable men turn to scum the minute they win an election. Keep in mind that I am from Louisiana, so I may be more than a little biased on this subject. Especially after the last and ongoing episode in Baton Rouge.
We just elected a new governor, who was sworn in this last January. Bobby Jindal was expected to be a refreshing change from governors of the past. We only seem to elect leaders that are corrupt or inept, sometimes both. Governor Jindal made history, not only for being so young but he is of Indian descent.
We all had high hopes for Bobby. He ran a campaign based on change. He said he wanted to bring honor and respect back to our state. He wanted to pass bills that would do away with corruption. He got off to a good start. He appeared on Jay Leno and other shows promoting Louisiana and actually didn’t embarrass us.
It wasn’t long before Republicans, pundits and political advisers started throwing out his name as a good Vice President choice for John McCain. He was even invited to a barbecue in Arizona that most thought was an interview. He always said the right thing. He assured us he didn’t want the job. He had too much to do at home and he wanted to be elected governor for another term. This was Louisiana’s chance and he wanted to lead the way.
Back home, things are not so rosy for Bobby. Our esteemed legislators voted themselves a hefty raise. The package also guaranteed them a raise every time the US congress gets one. It later came out that the Governor’s Cabinet was included. Governor Jindal said he didn’t approve of the bill, but would not veto it. His argument was that he wouldn’t be able to get his reform bill passed if he vetoed the raise and reform was too important to jeopardise it. That led voters to question his reasoning. We are going to fight corruption with corruption? In the ensuing turmoil it was revealed that Jindal has let approximately 100 bills pass into law without his signature, a record in Louisiana. Now it is being speculated that this is also a political ploy. If he is ever on the ticket for President or Vice President, no one will be able to point out bills that he signed.
You may be asking why there is such an uproar over our legislators receiving a raise. To begin with, it is the size of the raise and the fact that they will get one every time one is given in Washington without ever having another vote here in Louisiana. Then you have to factor in that Louisiana is not a rich state. We have a very high amount of people who live in poverty. Others, who were at one time considered middle class, can no longer afford to go to the doctor or purchase medicine, not to mention gasoline. Being such a rural state, it is almost impossible to give up driving. Gasoline that cost $4 a gallon hits a budget very hard. It doesn’t seem fair for the politicians to get a big raise now. Not when so many people are hurting.
The people in question don’t help themselves in this fight either. Most of them come from modest means. They were not nor will be the recipient of a large inheritance. They did not make a fortune in business. That is until they got elected. They all seem to do quite well after they are sworn in.
Now the whole thing has blown up in all their faces. The people of Louisiana are protesting. There are petitions being circulated to recall Jindal and some legislators. Governor Jindal is being protested every where he goes. It is being talked about in all the newspapers and on all the television news. Even if the recalls don’t pass, and we know they probably won’t, chances are he will not be elected for that second term he wants so bad. The congressmen also know they are in trouble. Several are now denying they threatened Jindal with a negative vote for his agenda. Some are saying they won’t take the raise. Others say they will give it to charity. None of this is changing the minds of the people who vote for them. It is just the same old politics in the bayou.
This is such a disappointment for me. I not only voted for Jindal every time he ran, I actively supported him. I had very high hopes he would succeed. And I had faith in his integrity. One day I may learn that one politician is no different from another one.
I never intended to bring politics to this blog. I want it to be a place to relax and have fun. But sometimes I get worked up over things and this is one of them. So please bear with me this one time.
